Juan Bazo is a climate scientist with a PhD in Climate Science from the University of Vigo, Spain, and over a decade of experience working at the intersection of climate science and humanitarian action in Latin America. My professional background includes research at the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Peru and academic roles in climate-related disciplines. Currently, I serve as the Scientific Advisor for the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre in Latin America, where I support Red Cross National Societies in integrating climate risk information into anticipatory action, disaster preparedness, and climate adaptation strategies. My research interests include Sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) prediction, climate variability, and the operational use of climate information for decision-making under uncertainty.

Within the SAGE initiative, my role focuses on identifying how S2S information can add value to humanitarian decision-making in the region and exploring practical ways to enhance its accessibility, reliability, and usability for on-the-ground actors. I am particularly interested in strengthening the link between scientific advancements and their application in early action protocols to reduce disaster risk and protect vulnerable communities.
