Arun Kumar, now retired, served as Principal Scientist at the Climate Prediction Center, National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). He joined NCEP in 1990 as part of the Coupled Model Project, developing a dynamical seasonal prediction system, and received his Ph.D. from Florida State University (FSU) the same year. His research encompassed sub-seasonal and seasonal climate predictions variability and predictability, the global influence of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), tropical air-sea interactions, and the analysis of oceanic and atmospheric interannual variability using coupled GCMs. Dr. Kumar serves as Chair of the WMO’s Expert Team on Operational Climate Prediction Systems (ET-OCPS).
